Why is San Diego the Real Hollywood for students
Los Angeles may get all the press because of Hollywood Street, but on the low, San Diego is the real Hollywood. You get all of the sun, sand and surf without the same level of tourism and narcissism. Those in the know understand that some of the smartest and most beautiful people in the world come to San Diego to study at one of its many heralded universities! Pretty people and beachside living aside, there are many other reasons to live and study in San Diego. Let’s take a look at the top six.
Great Off-Campus Housing
Student living in San Diego isn’t like student living in any other city. If you are lucky (and you have a bit of cash from a good part-time job or from dad), you can get off-campus student housing near the beach or near very high end neighborhoods. Not only will you be surrounded with a great environment, but you also have the ability to network with other hard-working students.
Study in Nature
If you get tired of studying in your student apartments, you can take your quest for knowledge into one of the beautiful locations that San Diego offers. Although the cosmopolitan aspect of the city gets most of the press, San Diego is a place of many scenic hiking trails and outdoor living. Study away from the power lines and constant technology for a new experience.

Great Craft Beer
Let’s not be coy – university is a time to earn your drinking wings! Why not earn them through one of the best craft beer scenes in the nation? By the time you leave, you will have a real taste for what a beer is supposed to taste like, and you may actually be able to enjoy the experience as a mental relaxant and study catalyst [read: drink slowly and have no more than one beer every two hours]!
If you’re going to study hard in one of the most competitive cities in the world, then you need to be able to reward yourself for a job well done. San Diego has a bustling nightlife with any activity that you can think of. Whether you want to go clubbing, lounging, eating or art gallerying, you can do it easily in San Diego!
Did you know? SDSU has had 90 students receive Fulbright awards, making SDSU a top producer in Fulbright winners.
Sometimes you need to recharge your batteries, and San Diego provides great proximity to some incredibly inspirational getaways. Try Big Bear Mountain in the winter for snowboarding, Julian to get some of the best cider and apple pie in the world, or hike the second tallest peak in San Diego, Mount San Jacinto!
